Special Rules & Guidelines

  1. Size of Gardens will be 10 feet by 10 feet and full use of space allotted must be made.
  2. One (1) entry per exhibitor, per class within each division.
  3. Entries will be accepted on a first come basis and limited to capacity of area.
  4. The exhibitor need not grow flowers and plant material. All exhibits are to be properly identified by their common and botanical name.
  5. Exhibits in Garden Display Divisions must furnish their own super-structures and accessories with care to be taken not to obscure other displays.
  6. All exhibits are to be built for the duration of the Fair and eligible for cash awards. Exhibits must be kept in fresh condition or exhibit will be disqualified.
  7. Only exhibitors entering exhibits that require daily care will be provided admission credentials. See the building supervisor for credentials. Tickets for admission are limited.
  8. Parents and advisors are to advise only. All exhibits are to be built in their entirety by the student.
  9. Polyethylene pools and streams are permitted but not required.
  10. Open to Riverside County FFA chapters. If Divisions are not filled, entries will be open to Riverside County 4-H Clubs.
  11. Students may use current machinery that is standard to the industry, specifically sod cutters, in order to prepare their landscape plots in a more timely and efficient manner as is in line with industry standards. Students must be trained prior to use and under the supervision of their advising adult in correct handling and safety procedures. Sod cutter would be allowed to be used the Sunday prior to that start of construction in order to remove sod prior to protective tent shelters being installed for the fair.
  12. American Judging System.

Scorecards for Judging Landscapes & Gardens

  • Proficiency of Craftsmanship: 25%
  • Quality & Variety of Plant Material: 25%
  • Design & Composition: 30%
    (creativity in use of plant material, props, and accessories including theme)
  • Suitability of Plant Material to the Proper Areas: 10%
    (example: no sum plants in shade)
  • Educational Value: 10%
    (labeling & plant plan)

  1. Enchanted Patio (Featuring the use of brick, stone, or wood. Provides a serene environment as a refreshing relief from the stresses of modern living.Ponds, fountains, or other water displays recommended.)
  2. Southwestern Patio (Featuring drought tolerant plant material.)
  3. Sun Lovers Patio (Featuring sun-loving flowering plants, trees, foliage, props and accessories. Using appropriate background materials such as bamboo, fencing, trees, wall, etc. Plant material and accessories to be exhibitor’s choice.)

  1. Drought Resist Design (Featuring drought tolerant plants.)
  2. Oriental Garden Styles
  3. Other Landscape Design (Using appropriate shrubs/trees for background, use of fountains, reflecting pools or waterfalls desirable. Complimentary props and accessories permitted.)

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY

Carefully review this guide as it contains all of the applicable information regarding the exact rules and deadlines for this specific category, ensuring you are entering the correct classes in advance. When you submit your entry online you are agreeing that you understand the rules and regulations.

All entries must be made online through ShoWorks. If you plan to make changes to your entries or need to leave ShoWorks at any time - SAVE YOUR CART before exiting out. Once you select PAY NOW your entry will be submitted and you will not be able to make changes to your cart online. Those needing assistance with online entries can visit the Main Office Saturday, January 11, 2025 to Wednesday, January 25, 2025. The Main Office is located in the Shalimar building at Gate 4 on Arabia Street.

PAYMENT

Online credit card payments are the only method to enter your exhibit and are due upon entry. Cash or check payments will not be accepted.

LAST DAY TO ENTER

SUNDAY, JANUARY 19 by 11:30 p.m.

Any entry or payment submitted past this deadline will not be accepted.
